  • Sky Harbor is one of the ten busiest in the nation for passenger traffic with a $79 million daily economic impact.  On a typical day:
    • More than 1,200 aircraft arrive and depart
    • More than 111,000 passengers arrive and depart
    • More than 800 tons of air cargo is handled
  • The Phoenix Airport System (PHX Sky Harbor, PHX Goodyear and PHX Deer Valley airports), now including Sky Harbor Center, has a total econonmic impact of $28.7 billion.
  • The direct impact of Sky Harbor International Airport, including Sky Harbor Center, is $9.5 billion. 
  • Nonstop international flights from Sky Harbor create a $3.0 billion total economic impact within the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area. 
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is self-sufficient. 

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Has a Great History:

  • Sky Harbor was purchased by the City of Phoenix in July of 1935 for $100,000.  The City paid $35,300 in cash and took out a $64,700 mortgage. It remains owned and operated by Phoenix.
  • Terminal 1 was the first "modern" terminal built.  It was completed in October 1952 and cost $853,000.  In 1990, Terminal 1 was demolished, but the other terminals were never renumbered. 
  • Terminal 2 was opened in 1962.
  • Terminal 3 was opened in 1979. 
  • Terminal 4 was opened in 1990.
  • PHX Sky TrainTM opened on April 8, 2013 - on time and under budget.
